The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation is thrilled to introduce two new members of our team: Tiffany McDowell, PhD and Julia Luthringer.
Tiffany McDowell has been hired as Director of Social Impact. Tiffany will lead our Social Impact grantmaking portfolio and will continue to build our team as the PMAFF’s grantmaking grows.
Julia Luthringer has been hired as our first Program Officer in Conservation. Julia will work closely with the Senior Director of Conservation as the PMAFF expands the strategic impact of our grantmaking in that area.
We are delighted to welcome Tiffany and Julia and are excited for you to get to know them. Their bios are below.
Dr. Tiffany McDowell is a community psychologist, researcher, and thought leader with a deep commitment to dismantling systems that marginalize individuals and communities. Throughout her career, she has worked tirelessly to understand the complexities of social inequity and its impact on well-being. Driven by a passion for social justice and equity, Tiffany champions inclusive solutions that empower all voices to be heard and valued.
Tiffany’s extensive experience spans collaborating with both for-profit and non-profit organizations, helping them achieve their missions through strategic program development and evaluation, fundraising, community assessments, and facilitation. She excels at building capacity within communities, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and guiding the development of actionable plans for sustainable change.
Tiffany was most recently Director of the Equity Institute at YWCA Evanston/North Shore, where she led capacity-building initiatives for human services organizations. Prior to that Tiffany was co-Executive Director at Adler University’s Institute on Social Exclusion and co-founded the Chicagoland Equity Network.
Tiffany holds a PhD in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University, with a specialization in couple and family therapy. She also earned an MS in Child and Family Studies from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and a BS in Psychology from Southern University and A&M College (Baton Rouge, Louisiana).
Julia (Jules) Luthringer is thrilled to be joining the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation after 6+ years supporting the National Geographic Society (NGS), where she led the ocean research and conservation grant portfolio of projects and worked with National Geographic Explorers to identify and develop ocean priorities for the organization. Previous to NGS, she was a 2017 Knauss Fellow advancing federal funding for NOAA’s climate and ocean research. Earlier in her career, Jules supported field-based marine research across American coasts and internationally.
Jules holds a Master’s in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Environment and a Bachelors’ in Marine Sciences from Boston University.
