Supporting Conservation, Performing Arts, Social Impact
Since 2014, the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation (PMAFF) has been a proud supporter of the Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC). PMAFF funding has enabled ELPC to expand their staff to add talented public interest environmental attorneys and other advocates who work tirelessly to promote ELPC’s environmental program.
Since 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has worked tirelessly to champion populations who have traditionally been denied their rights. Today, with more than 1.5 million members, nearly 300 staff attorneys, thousands of volunteer attorneys, and offices throughout the nation, the ACLU continues to vigorously defend individual freedoms.
Chicago has of the most dynamic theater scenes in the world. It is home to over two hundred theater companies, yet only a few identify as Latino, even though it is the second largest demographic in the city.

Founded in 2000, Ecology Project International (EPI) involves young people from the U.S. and Latin America in hands-on science and conservation projects that protect species and habitat in five countries, bridging the gap between cultures and empowering the next generation of conservation leaders.
Over 23,000 students have participated in EPI’s field programs. Of those participants, over 70% are local youth living in communities adjacent to the project site. Our impact is profound on both local and visiting students, establishing a lifelong commitment to conservation.
The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation has provided support for EPI programs in Belize and Costa Rica.
In partnership with the Oceanic Society, University of Belize, Belize Audubon Society, and Wildlife Conservation Society, EPI students engage in bottlenose dolphin, lionfish, conch, lobster, sea urchin, and coral research on the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere. They also participate in bird and terrestrial mammal research at Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.
On the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, the world’s fourth most important nesting habitat for critically endangered leatherback sea turtles, students monitor nesting females. Youth patrol the beach to restore habitat, gather vital data, and protect nests against human and environmental threats.
The Foundation is proud to support these programs, which raise awareness of Central American ecological treasures while engaging youth to become the next generation’s conservation guardians.

Christopher House began in 1906 as a settlement house to help immigrants adjust to life in the U.S. Over the last century, our program has evolved to meet the needs of Chicago’s low-income population. Currently, Christopher House serves more than 5,000 individuals annually through four centers throughout Chicago’s North and West Sides: Uptown, Logan Square, Avondale, and Belmont Cragin. Our newest center in Belmont Cragin, which opened in August 2013, offers our full range of schools to this high need community, where there is a critical shortage of early childhood and parenting programs, and the vast majority of public schools are on academic probation. This new site is also home to Christopher House’s first elementary school, which will educate students from birth through eighth grade.
Christopher House provides a continuum of high-quality schools serving infant, preschool, elementary, high school, as well as support services that create stable, self-sufficient families. Our centers are nationally renowned and have earned the highest ratings in the City of Chicago. High standards, high expectations, data-driven outcomes, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement for students, families, and our staff are the driving force behind all of our work.

The investment from The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation will allow Christopher House’s family of schools to continue to grow and to support each child’s educational development through both academic rigor in the classroom, social work and parent education.
Since 1998, AIDA has used the law to protect the environment, primarily in Latin America.
Attorneys from and in Latin America bring regional knowledge and expertise in international law to communities and organizations working to solve environmental problems. [Read more…]
